Dr. Luna Filipovic joins us! In today’s world, multilingual and multicultural realities are no longer the exception. They are the norm. Economic, political, and humanitarian-related migration has reshaped the demographics of our workplaces and communities, including education, healthcare, law enforcement, and corporate environments. Together with these changes, we are seeing growing tension where the majority language and culture collide with the diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds of minority groups. Those tensions often surface most sharply during high-stakes conversations, such as criminal investigations or corporate fraud inquiries. Misunderstandings about language ability, cultural norms, and nonverbal behavior can quickly create barriers that delay investigations, waste resources, and undermine outcomes. This webinar will focus on how to recognize and remove those barriers without shutting down the very communication channel investigators need to keep open. We will explore the practical challenges of communicating with suspects and reluctant witnesses who do not speak English well or at all, and who may require an interpreter. |
